We have a consumer toy product for kids age 7-12 that combines mechanical, electrical and software components in a learning experience for kids to learn about technology.
The heart of the product is a Raspberry Pi microcomputer that interfaces with standard off-the-shelf electronic components ( breadboard-based ) , wrapped in a mechanical building experience where kids 1) assemble laser-cut mechanical parts, 2) wire up circuits, and 3) program their way through fun games.
The goal of this project is to determine ways to reduce the cost of the overall product, including a:
1) BOM review of where we can save cost in the bill of materials.
2) Manufacturing process review - identifying alternative lower-cost manufacturing process
3) Product Design review - proposing modifications to the overall product design to reduce cost .
4) Identifying other ways to reduce cost.
Goal: Determine the feasibility of a 20-40% cost reduction.
In this cost-down redesign we would be looking to maintain the core essence of the product, while determining the feasibility of reducing the COGS by approximately 20-40%.
Timing Scope: 1 week
Direct experience with consumer hardware products, design for manufacturing, and product design are expected. Direct experience with children's toy products is highly desirable.
