The Assignment Editor is responsible for editing original videos and assigning content in a variety of journalistic forms to a team of domestic and overseas reporters. The Assignment Editor leads reporters in creating quality video and text content that adhere to MBN’s journalistic policies and practices. They are also responsible for selecting, editing, assigning and approving content designed to engage audience and stimulate discussion of critical issues as proscribed by the Managing Editor and Sr. Assignment Editor.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Assignment Editor include, but are not limited to:
Assigning creation of original content in a variety of journalistic forms, including video stories, articles and alternative engagement content (polls, lists, surveys, interactive maps, UGC, data visualization) to complement articles and build engagement.
Editing and repackaging video content filed by overseas reporters.
Selecting, editing, and approving all content in a timely and balanced style in adherence to MBN’s Journalistic Code of Ethics.
Ensuring all material to be published is accurate, well organized and grammatically correct including news scripts, photographs, features and interviews.
Monitoring regional websites, online trends and analytics data to develop topics and content to engage audiences.
Working collaboratively and consistently with the other Assignment Editors and teams to maximize impact of content across social platforms.
Maintaining knowledge of current events in the Middle East, North Africa and across the globe.
Leading and motivating team to ensure quality and timely content.
Motivating, monitoring performance, and providing feedback to team members to ensure quality and consistency of content.
