We are looking for someone to aid with cleaning company names in a database that contains approximately 45,000 unique company names. We have identified several rules that we would like to be able to apply to the work.
To provide some context, we would be looking for someone to help clean up our marketing database.
At present we have carried out any company name standardisation by a large vlookup table. Any new raw names are first checked against this to see if we have come across them previously. If not, we then try to apply fuzzy logic to assign them to previously identified company names. Thirdly, if we still cannot identify them, we will highlight the blanks, sort the company names a-z and assign them manually.
One of the major problems we have identified is the lack of pre-assigned rules and several different people undertaking the cleaning process. Consequently, people have applied their own logic to the cleaning process, meaning that we often have been left with multiple derivatives of the same company name – this will have a negative impact on our marketing processes.
We have identified this as a suitable time to try and undertake a major clean on the database and the process by which we assign the company names. At present, we are finding it difficult to identify whether there is any automated process (such as a macro) which we could utilise to minimise the amount of manual work within the team. Therefore, we'd like to freelance the problem to see if this is possible.
Attached are the rules we are looking to apply to the database, if this is possible. All company names would have to be identical to the point where a vlookup table would work.
