The program I need is a dowloader of publicly available stock prices data.
Requirements are the following:
1) the program will read stock symbols and stock names from a .Csv format list
2) the program will connect to [url removed, login to view] and collect for each stock of the list following DAILY data: currency, closing, open, high, low, volume
3) the program will store the data as .CSV files. Each stock will be a single .CSV file. Each file will be named after the stock name or stock symbol.
4) the program will be able to update each single .Csv stock file or to add other stocks. When updating, the programi will not need to reload all the data, but will just apped the new data to the old ones. As an example, if for the stock "Microsoft" data have been collected already covering the last six years of price and volume history, when an updating session is launched, the program will not reload from the [url removed, login to view] site the previously stored six years of data. It will just download the data for the period between the previous download and the actual update session
a) connection to [url removed, login to view] is free. There is no need to register. But registration for free is also possible
b) the programmer shall connect to [url removed, login to view] and take a tour to see how stock data is displayed. To see a sample please navigate to [url removed, login to view] . You will see a query form. Just enter the name or symbol of a stock that you know. As an example, enter Microsoft and press the blue Search button
c) this will take you to a list of companies with name "Microsoft". Just click on the first of the list (bold font !) and you will get to the page: [url removed, login to view]
d) on that page, open "interactive charts". There you will find all information about the price and volume history of the stock....follow the various menu options and explore the various display possibilities (time frame, stile, etc.)
So you can evaluate how to pick such data...
