The project is about the dire straits of British Columbia's declining Salmon population. Millions of salmon are spawned each year, for only a few hundred thousand to come back. Fish Farms run salmon feedlots, where the waste sifts down to the ocean floor, creating a dead zone around the nets. Carnivorous salmon consume many times their weight in other fish- when fisheries are in decline all over the world, this is not sustainable. The closely packed salmon in fish farms become breeding grounds for sea lice, which kill juvenile wild salmon who swim by before they are big enough to withstand the sea lice. Young salmon released too early from salmon hatcheries die. The high demand for salmon causes overfishing. Cold-water salmon find themselves in increasingly warmer water. Run-of-River dam projects destroy salmon habitat.
