I am starting a business building customised PCs for students/home users and gamers. As part of the business planning process I am scoping out the cost to develop the online store.
The store will be similar in many ways to other online e-tailers of this type however the customer type will not be the "do it yourself" customer. Instead I am tartgeting the "average Joe" who would usually by their computer at a retail store.
With this in mind, the other sites mentioned above are difficult to navigate and confusing for the average person.
I would like a site that has a clean, easy to navigate interface, but also offers additional functionality and categories to people who are IT savvy eg gamers. For example the home page may have a few basic categories eg "student systems" "home user systems" "gamer systems" "parts and accessories". Beneath student/home user/gamer will be an inventory of systems (around 10 each) with the option to "tweak" each system. Beneath the "parts and accessories" category however there needs to be room to add a number of categories (around 15 - eg "CPUs" "memory" "hard drives") with a number of products in each category.
I would also like the site to offer the ability to filter results while buying to enable people to "narrow down" what they are looking for.
The site must include support for SSL so I can accept online payments and integrate with my accounting software
There are a number of computer e-tailors listed who have based their sites on OScommerce, however I'm not sure if it will have the functionality to support all of the features I want?
In terms of design, I would like to incorporate a lot of Flash in the site so that it has a "high tech" feel, but still remains simple and easy to navigate. An example of site (in fact they are web designers) with the sort of design . You will see their site is loaded with spelling mistakes and errors but the design is nice. I actually emailed them about a week ago to enquire about their services but have still not heard back...
*UPDATE 03/04/08* In terms of logo designs etc, we've already selected our own graphics designer - so the basis of this project will consist mainly of the design of the web site e-commerce solution.
