I've been using Analytics for a while and have a cursory understanding of a few things about it. I know how to look at pageviews, compare against things in the past, toy around with visitor flows and... well, that's it, I guess.
The site I operate is [url removed, login to view] - please look at it before bidding. It's a webcomic, with forums and a gallery, but most of the hits go to the archive (click "Archive" in the navigation bar and see how many pages there are and how they're organised.) I have two goals with this website: to get new people who come to the website to engage with the comic, reading many pages of it and staying as regular readers, as well as getting current readers to buy items from the store and do key useful things like sign up for our newsletter, visit our other sites and become fans of that, etc.
What I'd like to do in this project is to pay for the time of an advanced user of Google Analytics to give me some ideas as to how to use it more effectively to track the path of my visitors, among other things. A few things I'd like to learn how to do:
* I would love to use conversions/funnels to track things like "Users who read more than 200 pages of the comic in one session", "Users who returned multiple times over the week to finish the whole comic", "Users who came in via a banner and never looked at the Store", "Users who clicked stuff in the thumbnail bar at the bottom of the page", stuff like that. How can I do it?
* I advertise with banner ads on the webcomic-based ad network "Project Wonderful". I've long had trouble figuring out how effective each ad I make is, and visualising this in a way that allows me to work out which banner type and which placement. At one point I changed my ad links to go to a URI with lots of analytics-targeted parameters: [url removed, login to view] but I don't know how to use these! How can I weed out my worst-performing ads and know which are the best-performing ads? Can I group together source websites so I know which send great visitors that read a lot of pages and which send crappy ones that bounce in a few pages?
* I would like to A/B test whether sending people (coming via banner ad) to [url removed, login to view] is more or less effective than sending them to the regular home page. How do you propose I measure effectiveness, and how do I A/B test this kind of thing?
* Anything else that would be informative for me that comes to your mind.
I'd like to give you access to my account so that you can construct some nice funnels, filters and whatever else is required for me, as well as having a conversation with me about what I can do to be more effective than I am today.
Hopefully someone out there has the knowledge and a few hours to help me out!
P.S. Please look at the website and this posting before bidding. I don't need generic advice on how to install GA or anything, I'm looking for specific help from someone who has the vision to tell me what kind of clever analytics stuff I could be doing that I haven't even thought of. :) Thanks!
