[url removed, login to view] is a tourism project that will specialize in water sports, activities and destinations starting in the Central America region. We want to integrate information from different sources like weather, news feeds and present it in a user friendly fashion. We would like to use DNN or Joomla due to the large amount of available modules. We require an easy administration interface for all content and being able to do user generated content (wiki).
I'm uploading a PowerPoint presentation of what we are looking form in terms of site functionality and look... I understand this is perhaps a little different and more complicated than what it seems in the project description, so feel free to adjust your bid accordingly. Please let me know about any questions. Also, in the area there are a lot of small hotels that do not have an online reservation system, I've seen that there are a few available for both Joomla and DNN, integration of these in the site would be great!
I apologize to everyone for not describing the project in depth in the first two posts, I have absolutely no website making experience and this is also the first time that I post a project for online bidding.
www.destinosnauticos.com will be a tourism website (like lonelyplanet.com, frommers.com and fodors.com) but that specializes in nautical destinations and sports. We are based in Guatemala which will be the first country to be covered, we want to take the project to El Salvador and Honduras by year end... we'll see where 2012 takes us. I am saying this just to point out that the project will start small but has the potential for exponential growth, which is something to take into account in the design of the website.
The look and feel that I am shooting for is a complete departure from the usual website in the sense that I don't want to use a common menu, but would like to emulate the functionality of widgets much like windows 8 and windows phone 7.5 (mango). As you can see on the presentation, once you start navigating on the site, the background blacks out; what I am trying to emulate here is the feel of the photo display on facebook... you can return to the home page by clicking on the darkened background.
The first and most important module on the website is the "Destinos" (Destinations) module. A static worldwide map with text links to the 8 continents/sub-continents, which takes you to the respective "landing page" In the presentation, that is North America, again we find a static map of the chosen region with text links to countries. Following the link takes you to Mexico, where we find an alphabetical list of all the Mexican destinations. We chose Cancun and are taken to the Cancun "landing page" where things start to get interesting. I need the site to show information pertinent to Cancun, including the banners. This is following the premise that it is irrelevant to show an ad for a Miami restaurant in the Cancun landing page. Here we have a weather widget, a "services & products widget, a sports widget, an events widget, a multimedia widget and a marketplace widget. The weather widget is self explanatory. The Services & Products widget takes us to a page that lists all available products & services, when one is selected it drops down a simple alphabetical list of ALL available. The ones that pay the respective fee get their own "landing page", I'm thinking to make their name a hyperlink. The use of icons is very important, and the database has to track each property and its icons so that you can do a search, say of hotels and other companies that offer scuba diving in Cancun. I would very much like to include online reservations, especially since most small hotels in our area lack their own website and/or online booking. All other widgets (sports, events, multimedia and marketplace) on this page should ONLY show what is available at the destination. I guess this ends the Destinations "module".
Back on the home page, the "Top 9" or highlighted destinations could perhaps be the list of the most viewed, but should also be managed so that you could "push" a selected destination. I would like this widget to include a picture "rotator" (panoramio?). Each picture linking to the respective destination "landing page".
Sports widget: also a picture "rotator", the whole widget linking to the sports landing page. In this landing page a collection of widgets, one per sport, that links to their respective landing page. In the landing page a text area plus destinations, multimedia and calendar widgets (linking only to resources pertaining to the respective sport).
Back on the home page, the events widget links to a calendar that show highlighted "worldwide" events like America's Cup, Miami Boat show, etc. that have mass appeal to a worldwide audience. Widgets for destinations and sports should be included in this page, with a sturcture similar to the main destination and sports "areas". (Continet/Sub-continent, country, destin

The multimedia widget links to a "landing page" that gives you the option of destination or sport. Search options would be useful on all pages. To save on server space, linking to youtube for videos would be nice, if there is a similar service for pictures, that would be nice too.
The marketplace sections is basically a classified adds module, but general advertising would be nice. I would also like store to affiliate my website to stores at this level. If the website grows geographically, there should be a way to limit the scope of the classifieds shown to make them relevant. I leave it up to you how to do it.
The news widget, I have in mind RSS feeds from travel news sites plus admin generated news. Does this require a landing page? I´ll leave that up to you.
Forum Widget is a link to the general forums page.
Tips is a link to a specific forums page that is dedicated to travel, sports, boating tips.
Et voila... I think this is the website in a nutshell.
