I'm working on a website that enables users to search multiple sites like google, wikipedia, youtube, facebook and so on. It's a search site with a social bookmarking component that users will use as a startingpage/homepage. The whole site will be highly customizable enabling people to choose their background, skin, search engines and adding links to their favorite sites. By default the site will look very clear and easy. For this site I still need a name and a logo.
I have a name for it but I'm looking for a better name. The name must be available on .com so that I can register it (check with [url removed, login to view]). Further the name must be easy to remember and (English speaking) people should know how to spell it (so best no existing words with strange spelling variations). It's not necessary that the name actually means something, it can be a made up word, or a word from a foreign language, as long as it would sound good from an English point of view. The name should sound like the next internet hype fitting between names like google, ebay, yahoo, flickr, youtube, amazon and so on. Although the main function of the site is web search, I don't want the name to refer to this because in the future I will take the site beyond searching. The name must make people think that it is something cool, new, professional, global, web based, just by hearing it. Ideally people must get a little bit excited to check it out even before they know what it is, just by the sound of the name.
The logo must say exactly the same. It should be a internet style logo (web 2.0 logo) so that people can see from the logo that it's most likely a logo for a web page. An other very important requirement is that the logo should look good on any possible background, as users will choose a color or photo for the background of the site. So keep in mind that a one color red logo would fall away against a red background and would probably look ugly on a yellowish background. For the current (working) name I made a logo with a lot of alpha channels (PNG format) in it so that the characters are almost glass like (transparent) which looks very cool on all backgrounds, then I made one of the letters red and one blue to still have recognizable colors in there. By default the image will be shown on a white background so it should definitely look good on that.
If you come up with multiple names, write them to me in an PM (personal message) and I will tell you which one I like best. There is also a possibility that you will come up with a real good name but I don't like your logo (or the other way around) so please give me a price for just letting me use (one of) your name(s), a price for just making a logo and a price if I would use both a name and a logo from you.
I can not select a winner based on previous work or a portfolio so please send names to me in a PM with a preview of the logo (you can also choose to wait with the logo until I approved the name you suggested). You don't need to be scared I would steel your name or logo because I can not afford to have a lawsuit me over the rights after the site has become the success I hope it will be. Also I will need all the rights and the vector images (illustrator or coreldraw, preferably illustrator), so just a PNG file for the preview means nothing to me. At least the background of the image should be transparent (unless your logo will be completely square) so I suggest you send a preview in PNG format with transparency so that I can test it on different backgrounds and don't make the preview bigger than 350px wide.
I hope one of you has the creativity to win this project. Although I hope my website will be a success, please know I'm just another guy and not some kind of a big company so I also need to watch my budget. Also don't be smart by registering the name before me because then the name will be just one of the many cool names that are already taken and then I can just as easy try to buy one of the other taken names. You can make your partial price public, but for your own good, place any suggestions on the name in PM's.
