Looking for a Logo for our new crafting brand - potential too for further projects for brand identity and packaging!
A quick business description:
Ellbie Co looks to become a brand that will take crafting and reposition it in a contemporary market. Ellbie Co will provide kits and crafting materials for the younger generation. Using alternative original materials such as neon wire and thermochromic paint - Ellibe Co kits will be unique, simple to use and contain online video tutorials and downloadable bonus craft ideas. Currently there is no other contemporary modern craft business in the UK making kits or offering support to a younger generation of crafters using these new materials.
Aim of the business is to shift craft away from the image of granny knitting or kids painting - and instead make it relevant to the modern woman, allowing her to create instagram and pintrest-worthy projects that she would be happy to give to friends or show off in her home.
Initial products are:
Neon lights kit, Concrete phone docking station, Colour changing coffee mug - PLUS workshops at various locations - PLUS sales of additional materials to add to the kits.
Ellbie Co values
1) Empower: Open to anybody who loves design and handmade things
You DO NOT need to be an experienced crafter to use any of our products, because we will make things clear and easy to do.
2) Creativity is not linear - break the way things have always been done
Our kits can be changed in various ways and even the packaging can be made into something new! We want our customers to make the kits THEIR WAY.
3) Colour is our friend - be bold and brave!
Modern crafted design products do not have to mean silver, grey and minimalism!
4) Embrace the quirky and the unusual.
Craft can be so much more than knitting or painting! It’s young and exciting!
5) Sharer of ideas within the crafting community.
Want the customer to play with our products and make their own variants as much as possible to inspire others in the crafting community.
6) Warm, friendly and cheerful.
Things I’m looking for in a logo:
> It needs to be the title of the company (no symbols!) can be written as:
Ellbie Co. OR Ellbie co. OR ELLBIE CO.
Doesn’t matter whether the C in “Co” is upper or lower case. Feel free to play around!
> Ideally it will feel more like a design brand/fashion brand than a craft brand. I’m not crazy about [url removed, login to view] as it’s a bit boring but something like this in terms of how fresh it feels or: [url removed, login to view] Same with: [url removed, login to view]
> Ideally it will contain colour of some kind - hints of are fine, but colour has to be there. But it should also be able to work in black and white too (so nothing too patterned etc).
> It needs to feel powerful - and exciting, I’m trying to change how craft is perceived so it needs to jump off the page and feel slightly edgy, whilst also being a friendly too. Tatty Devine does this quite well: [url removed, login to view] Although I’d prefer more of a hint of colour for Ellbie Co.
> Also it would be great if the logo could be changed by my customers at some point or to reflect the season - like the google doodle so the logo is truly creative! So nothing too busy!
> Also if a specific font is used - make sure it’s suitable for free commercial use.
> It will be used on kits, business cards, bags, website, tickets for workshops etc...so it needs to work for all of these things.
> Needs to say crafting, but also catch the eye and be exciting! (hopefully that makes sense?!)
> Timeless - so won’t go out of fashion next year :P
What I don’t want:
> Something generic - that uses typical crafting motifs like butterflies and flowers (Eughhhhhh!) Like this: [url removed, login to view]
> Avoid traditional crafting logo/packaging colours like: Light turquoise, lemon yellow, light pink
Like these logos (eughhhhhh!): [url removed, login to view]
> Avoid using circles to place the image in - it’s far too common in crafting!
> No brown crafting paper - it’s been done to death.
> No swirly leaf detail in black outlining things.
> Something thats overly detailed
> Something that feels cold and corporate.
> Old fashioned.
> Kitsch design.
A quick bit about my customer:
My customer is aged between 18 - 30 years old.
They are typically female and they have no children/or are thinking about children.
They have a small amount of disposable income and enjoy feeling like the quirky/special one amongst their group of friends. They like to stand out and be admired for their differences. They possibly used to do some arts and crafts as a child - and since the latest mindfulness colouring book trend they are now open to the idea of trying some DIY projects again. Either that or they admire people who can craft - they regularly pin projects on pinterest, watch vlogs about craft and enjoy shopping online on sites like etsy. They might have never crafted before but they appreciate the beauty in handmade products.
They take a bit of pride in their appearance - and want their home and belongings to say the right thing about them.
They aren’t rich - but they have enough money to be able to afford to buy themselves the odd treat. They live either in their first paid for home or their first rental.
