This is an easy project for someone who is skilled at working with paths in Illustrator.
We have a political world map in a .ai Illustrator file. This contains a path (or a group of paths) for each country.
We also have paths for each of the states (or provinces) of 6 of those countries (USA, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, and Australia).
The problem is that the paths for the states/provinces came from a slightly different map projection, and don't fit perfectly inside the path of the country they belong to.
The project is to tweak the paths of the states and provinces so they fit perfectly inside the path of the country they are in. The borders should line up perfectly.
We've actually already done most of the work ourselves and most states/provinces fit reasonably well, but there are some remaining issues that need some work.
- The layers in the file are in a strict structure and have specific naming requirements. These are already mostly done but need to be kept consistent, as the file will be exported as .svg and parsed by another program.
- In some cases (like Italy), the provinces have a nicer coast line path than the country. The best path wins, so in this case you should modify the country's path to match its provinces, while still fitting well with its neighbour countries.
- If in doubt about the way a state/province should look, please refer to a detailed political map, like Google Maps, as we need as accurate a map as possible.
