I have a system tray website launcher, which populates its URL menu tree plus icons by retrieving an XML specs file from a server. Unfortunately, when I launch the tool from my office (as opposed to from home), the firewall prevents it from accessing the Internet. I am told this has to do with the fact that the tool is written in Delphi and that the same problem may not arise if the tool is written in Java. In fact, I know of a Java application that has no problem accessing the Internet from the system tray. If you are confident you can take the Delphi code and turn it into a Java applet that can access the Internet from the system tray even in the presence of a firewall, let me know.

firewalls do not care about the type and language of an application that they block. delhi or java, both will be blocked. if you want your application work, setup the firewall correctly.
