I'm in need of a robust, cross-platform drop down menu for my website (horizontal menu, vertical drop down). I'm not looking for anything too fancy, just something that will get the job done in all modern browsers and without any slow down effects (well optimized code). The menu has to be search engine friendly, too.
I have tried using the popular Suckerfish drop down (CSS/DHTML) however this suffers from certain flaws when using different browsers and platforms... [url removed, login to view]
Also a very important detail of this work (and another flaw with the DHTML drop down) is that the menu will be positioned on top of a leaderboard (728x90) advertisement which could be a flash animation. There has to be no problems with menus showing on top of flash animations.
I believe the best way to go is with java, although that is not a requirement. And, of course, I will need at least some basic instructions on how to implement the menu in case I want to add/remove some items in the future.
Finally, this is a great example of a drop down menu that works well:
[url removed, login to view]
See the "Thread Tools" button almost at the top of the page, it works with a click and shows a menu. For this project however I would prefer that the menus dropped down when on hover.
