This will be similar to the Dynamic Drive "Image Thumbnail Viewer II" except is going to be used as a home page site navigation menu. This button-driven menu will only be used on the home page. (Sub level pages will use a standard horizontal text nav menu which I have already built). The horizontal text nav will also appear on the home page as alternate nav. The button-driven nav will work independently of the horizontal text nav and the two must co-exist on the home page only, but they will target the same sub-level pages.
Contained within a <nav> or <div> tag, there will be 12 buttons, arranged in a grid 4 buttons wide x 3 high, corresponding to 12 sub-level pages. Each button serves as a link to a different sub-level page in the site. Each button will have unique overlaying html text that describes the page it links to. There will be no text embedded on the button image, just a bare button. I will be using an image sprite consisting of a green button and a blue button. There will be only 2 button images to serve in all 12 positions on the grid.
Note: my client may at any time ask me to change button text, images, AND they may add or reduce the number of buttons. So, the number of buttons must be flexible and not hard coded at 12.
On hover, active and current, the button swaps from the green button image to the blue button image. The html text describing the button changes from blue to white.
Also, on button hover, a separate, large pictorial image is displayed in a <div> on a different part of the same page (I can position the div). Each button will have a different corresponding large pictorial image. This separate pictorial image also must function as a link to the same sub-level page as described on the associated button. The pictorial image will not have different hover behavior.
Also, each large pictorial image will have its own caption which must appear under the image. When someone hovers a button for page 2, the pictorial image will portray the content of page 2, and also show this unique caption.
The pictorial image <div> will utilize a default image that is different from any of the button related images. However, on rollover of a button, this default pictorial image will change to the one associated with that menu item.
Again, take a look at the Dynamic Drive item for caption, pictorial image behavior.
I need to be able to position buttons as needed, and the pictorial image display area as needed.
