Hospitality Law Exam Case Section 2/17 Sarah Leah v Holiday Inn Suites Hotel On Tuesday March 20th Sarah Leah was offered an exciting new job with a magazine company in Ottawa. The job came with the condition that she must start the next weekend. Sarah packed up all her belongings into a U-Haul and drove to Ottawa. She arrived on Thursday and took a room at the Holiday Inn Suites Hotel in town. She unpacked the U-Haul and moved most of her belongings into her room. The rest of her belongings were left in her vehicle’s trunk and back seat. Sarah was able to do this with the assistance of a bellman. For the following week she left the hotel every day at 6:30 in the morning and returned to the hotel around 11:00 at night. She did not eat her meals at the hotel and in fact until the room could be organized a little better, housekeeping stayed out of the room. Her mail was forwarded to the hotel including personal letters, her visa bill and a subscription to Vogue magazine. On the fourteenth day of her visit there was a fire in the hotel. The fire was started by a cigarette thrown into a trash bin in the receiving area, the culprit was not found. All Sarah’s property in the room was either burnt or damaged by smoke. Her car had water damage and scratches to the paint but the belongings in it were not damaged. Sarah is suing for the following; $14,000 of personal property, $7,000 in electronics and computer, as well as her Honda $15,000 and $2,000 cash. DISCUSS ALL CIRCUMSTANCES FULLY. 1.
