I have two similar projects for which I need someone to create ecommerce websites. One for my mother (a paintress) and one for my father (an antique dealer). Both residing in the Netherlands, and me residing in Melbourne, Australia.
Previously my friend created for them two websites. This was done with ASP, with as database an uploaded Excel file. Although this worked, is working, it was of course not very professional. It was just to display their artwork with some data and had no ecommerce solutions.
A decision was made to move the two websites to a new host/server and to improve the websites. The websites moved from a Windows server to a Linux Server. Of course the ASP website doesn't run on a Linux server.
Previously... The page structure and the data are located in an uploaded Excel file. This file is uploaded by my mother or father to the root of the server. The ASP pages take their info from it. Pictures are uploaded separately. In addition there are a few regular html pages which were updated manually by me in FrontPage whenever this was requested.
The websites are in Dutch and English. In addition I created a manual Excel - XML function with the exchange rates of the European Central Bank. [url removed, login to view] This was done in the excel file and only manually updated.
The websites are now hosted by [url removed, login to view], Linux, Apache. Which offers some scripts and tools that are provided through Simplescripts. My mothers' website is an addon to the server and website of my fathers'.
As mentioned before this was previously hosted on WINDOWS and thus the websites currently don't work as they should. URGENT. However, I put a copy of the website on a windows server so that you can see the layout and functions as originally intended/designed.
The websites have a different colour scheme, different layouts, but their workings are/were almost identical. It would be great if we get one kind of CMS system for them to use. Of course not the same one and thus installed twice with each their own log in etc. This way they can help each other when using the CMS system. The public website layout and look must be different and based on their current websites.
So the question is... can you create these two websites. With an easy to use system (CMS/ecommerce) for my parents to update their info themselves. Upload new artworks. They are less technically inclined than I am. Their products could benefit from an ecommerce solution, but their presentation is important as well.
For ecommerce please consider payments to be made by cash, bank transfer, Paypal and iDEAL (Dutch direct banking payment solution for websites).
It is up to you how to go about all this and your recommendations are welcome. As to the choice of software, scripts, and language, this is your choice to make and the only consideration I make is security and server compatibility.
Of course we don't expect the websites to look 100% identical as now, when re-created for a Linux server. However, my parents do like the look and feel, the layout and colours, the current websites have. Of course they will like any improvement as well and any suggestion is welcome. Changing dimensions, colours, the dynamics, etc... all suggestions are welcome.
Please note that my artist parents are not that rich. (you details could be noted as the website's creator, advertising for you) In addition I would like of course to discuss things in person if that is possible. So if you are located in Melbourne that would be an added plus. If you are located in the Netherlands (nearby Oss) that is also a plus. But we are open for offers from anyone, anywhere.
