The Infocast 8 is a linux platform based on the Marvell Armada 168 microcontroller. It is highly related to the Chumby Internet readers, and a linux kernel can be installed which permits the device to be used as a linux development platform. AMI images exist on Amazon which support creation of Angstrom Linux kernels for this platform. These can be downloaded as images which can be burned to an SD card and installed on the Infocast 8.
The assignment is to install a working kernel on the Infocast 8, with a basic console, support for the internal wireless Ethernet connection, support for USB keyboard and mouse, and SSH access. A new Infocast 8, USB cable for connecting to the internal UART so that the bootscript can be viewed, and a new SD card will be supplied. These do not need to be returned: The deliverables are the recipe files, a written summary of the method used to build the kernel, the image file and supporting .ipk files, and a physical SD card with the software installed.
