I typically download hundreds of songs at once, by existing and brand new artists. (Legally, if you're concerned!). The songs go into a playlist I call "Evaluate." From there, I go through and listen to each one, keeping, sorting, etc.
Over time, it's become clear I really don't want certain artists. Maybe I have everything by that artist, or perhaps I hate a certain artist with passion. Either way, I consistently delete any song from them, right away.
I am searching for a way to filter out these artists as I go. I don't want to delete their songs outright, but I would like to have them move themselves to a separate playlist that I can evaluate later on.
The idea I've come up with:
1-- I want to select a track, and run the script.
2-- The artist of that track will immediately be added to a list, or a smart filter, or who knows what,
3-- That track, and ALL future tracks by the same artist, will be moved to an existing playlist (titled "Unwanted Artists Playlist").
I know this is a simple, common situation that can be handled by the creation of a Smart Playlist in iTunes. The reason I am looking to automate this process is that my Unwanted Artists list will have hundreds of names. Manually editing the Smart Playlist would be incredibly slow and inefficient, and since I'm trying to streamline this process, that would be going in the opposite direction. In fact, it would be faster to sift through every track and try to remember which artists I want to delete.
I am open to alternate routes to this goal, open to your suggestions, even if the solution takes place out of iTunes.
