You will choose a primary source from the class reading list or one of your own choosing (but you must gain my approval first). The primary source is not limited to your assigned readings. In this essay, you will be using a minimum of four secondary sources in addition to your primary source to build your argument. The sources should include scholars who you agree and disagree with. By engaging with sources that you have to argue against and not just with, your argument will ultimately grow stronger in the process. Expect to work on this assignment in stages throughout the semester: primary source, rough thesis/argument, outline, a rough draft, and a final draft. 7-9 pages.
