I want to model a simple structure (cube or cylinder) in Finite Element package (preferably ABAQUS) under simple loading like compression or tension. My interest is in the failure criterion you put for the material.
The model will be elastic and has a specific elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio. The material failure must be a tensile strain value. So every point in the model that reaches that critical tensile strain value under loading will crack and be deleted from the model. The software has to continue after deleting the element by stress redistribution and look for more elements that would reach that point….this goes on up until failure of the whole structure.

This problem comes under quasi static analysis. i can do both in LS-dyna and abaqus. From my understanding your expection is on Damage criteria of cube right.
This is an element birth and death kind of project. Assuming a simple geometry, in ANSYS it shouldn't be an issue for doing element birth and death. Let me know if you're ok with me regards, Kruti
