You are required to develop an example web based application that can be accessed on a number
of devices and a simple android application. The following should be considered in designing and
scripting your application· You are responsible for deciding the content and target audience of your mobile information
system. You should carefully choose and justify why your specific application is required
and beneficial for mobile users. For example, a mobile tourist information site could be
beneficial for mobile users, who might be out and about and requiring immediate
· Your application should be interactive and provide the services that you have deemed to be
useful for a mobile user. The features implemented should be shown to render successfully
to a number of device emulators.
· You can develop a mobile web application or a native (Android) application, or create an
application that uses both.
Assessment will be on an individual basis but you are encouraged to form teams / groups
for testing and accessing your applications. For example a web site may process data from
a number of applications – or an application may access one or a number of web sites.
The following are required to be submitted
Documentation detailing the design and development considerations made throughout the
site design. The design and site map of your mobile web application should be described
indicating what specific scripting techniques are used for implementing particular site
features. Screen shots and code examples will be expected to highlight particularly relevant
You are required to submit an individual research report of the technology available and an
evaluation of your application (1500 words approx)
The report should have two sections one that describes the current technological landscape and
how this effects the delivery of mobile services in general and an evaluation of your application, or
review an existing application. Key issues to be addressed are:
Mobile telecommunications delivery mechanisms, how cells work, the effect of coverage
and the limitations / advantages of 2G, 3G and future 4G.
Wireless delivery – compare wi-fi with telecoms provision, this may include a discussion of
the security aspects of mobile communications.
For your chosen application outline its strengths and weaknesses. Consider the user experience
on a variety of different mobile platforms and over different network delivery technologies. This can
be a theoretical exercise but the more you can supply actual test results and user feedback the
better your case will be made
