Hi developer,
My team is working on developing a tap animation app (a talking friend-type app), and we have hit some performance issues. I am looking for a verifiable specialist to spend a little time understanding our code and to offer solutions to get the desired result. You will not be required to code; only provide solutions and code samples when necessary.
Brief:
We are currently using full-screen .JPGs, highly-compressed, for our animations rendered at 30 frames per second. The user can tap certain parts of the screen to initiate new animations. Some of the animation sequences are interruptible and a new tap will restart the sequence. The UI has transparent .PNG buttons that persist while the animations play in the background. Audio plays in conjunction with the animation sequences.
Main Problem:
The animations are dropping frames and do not appear smooth, even on iPhone 5. The tap-to-response time is near instant, however, playback is choppy.
Specific goals:
1) Achieve consistent frame rate of 30FPS
2) Keep the app size relatively small (under 150MB)
3) Educate my team on the best format for the animations, best libraries to use, best implementation methods, etc.
I am looking for somebody with a proven history of overcoming these challenges, and someone who can instruct my team how to achieve this.
