I am looking for an app designer that could take a geology map of British Columbia and overlay it on the landscape as it is viewed through the users camera.
The image will effectively 'drape' over topography, and then using the phones geolocation and directional compass, will provide a live view of the geology in the area around the user.
We are looking to do a smaller 'proof of concept' project that we could expand on later. For now we want to see if the draping and augmented reality is viable. If it is, we would look at adding functionality such as clickable layers whereby a user could select a geological layer on the map and it would pop-up information about those rocks, or we can tie in links to more detailed information about a particular site, such as an old mine or fossil site. As such, this stage should have a back end that we could add information to over time.
The map itself can be provided as GIS Shapefiles or could possibly be converted to Google Earth KML / KMZ files. The map is open source, but credits need to be given to the British Columbia Geological Survey.
There is a similar app available called 'iGeology' that was made by the British Geological Survey, and this could provide some inspiration for the winning bid.
We hope that the app would work on Android and iPhones, and could be scaled for phone and tablets.
We are geologists, and this would be our first App design, so looking for guidance!
