The aim of the project is to develop a mobile application, working on Android, iOS and Windows Phone, which helps the communication between all university members (instructors, staff, students and other stakeholders). This innovative idea is exceptionally useful in exchanging information between them. Members can exchange any type of information (text, audio, video, files, etc...). The main advantage of this application is that the communication between members is organized, in other words, a member can contact someone depending on its role (instructor, director, student, etc...). The actual applications in the market do not consider the cited advantage because using them everyone can contact each other regardless. In addition, we intend to customize the application to response to any communication need from the university.
The definition of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) itself is the set of activities that facilitate by electronic means the processing, transmission, and display of information. ICT has become a powerful tool in the fight against world poverty, providing developing countries with an unprecedented opportunity to meet vital development goals, such as poverty reduction, basic health care, and education, far more effectively than before. With ICT, the company can make the business easier to happen with the client, supplier and the distributor. ICT also involving in our daily life, use in the internal interest.
Online chat may refer to any kind of communication over the Internet that offers a real-time transmission of information (text, audio, video, file, etc...) from sender to receiver. Currently, there are many applications for chatting in the market. Some kinds for public use and others customized for companies and enterprises. As far as we know, after searching on internet, we did not find mobile chat application customized for universities, as we will describe below.
The public chat applications are not officially used in the universities for two main reasons: the organizational structure of the university and the special needs and requirements in the university. For instance, The dean should not normally communicate directly with the students. The students can/cannot send messages to the university staff, etc. While in the public chat application, anyone can send to anyone.
In our application, we intend to organize the communication between all university members. The actors of this application are the university members (e.g. instructors, staff, students, etc.). We will cite the functionalities of the application and some scenarios of its use.
Main services provided by the application are:
1. Online/Offline Chat with ability to send/receive any kind of files (text, audio, video, etc…).
2. Subscribe to broadcast list created regarding needs (e.g. broadcast list for a special course or for a scientific subject, etc.).
3. Make groups of users (e.g. groups of the CS department’s members).
4. Voice calls between members (depends on server capabilities).
In this application, every member has its own privileges. It means that not every member can contact any other member. For instance, a student of the course CSE201 can subscribe to the course broadcast list and any related lists. The administrator of the application manages all these roles and proclivities.
Once the application is installed, it will be very profitable and servicing the users.
It can be installed in any faculty of the university. This application will be installed in the three main mobile OS: Android; iOS, and Windows Phone.
We highly believe that this application will provide high profit for its users.
