My project is a book on my journeys from 17 years old when I left Jamaica for England to join my mother.
back in 1964 I began to feel the heat of the fresh music of SKA, then it was called BLUE BEAT in LONDON
I roamed the street of KINGSTON at nights taking in the SOUND SYSTEMS in the DANCE HALLS, and learning
to play the drums by synchronizing to the upbeat of the SKATALITES who invented the beat. I went with GRANDMOTHER to the fields, to plant harvest, and sell in a grocery shop, in which I learnt to but goods from
an wholesale shop, and carry the goods to lay out in their spaces to be sold, daily after school. AT 9 years old I saw and grew chickens in the Country before leaving for the Hot City of KINGSTON, with JUKE BOXES many bars, and buses with AIR BRAKES, churches, food markets, SOUND SYSTEMS. Then music grabbed me, my attention was focused on the DRUMS, and remembering that I had a CHRISTMAS TOY of a small drum which I tied around my neck, and played with two sticks. [ What I need is my story to become a book, from which I have 16 pages till now, these are hand written, and pictures from different times of growing up with, first DRUM-KIT picture of first car, and how I played my way to CARNEGIE HALL without expecting, to also become a soloist Lead vocalist on recordings that became famous Internationally as JESSE GREEN.
