Nowadays the security for the data transfer is not so efficient so that the data and also the personal information of the user have been taken by the intruders due to the drawbacks in the present file transfer protocols used. So there is a need for a very secure and less overhead file transfer protocol which uses less bandwidth and uses very good protocol to maintain data confidentiality. Thus this project enables to send the data between two computers across a shared or public network in a manner that emulates the properties of a private link. The basic requirements for a secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP) are User Authentication, Address Management, Data Compression, Data Encryption and Key Management. The protocols that are satisfying the security requirements are distributed in these five layers. In user authentication layer, authentication of every device is done using Extensible Authentication Protocol - Transport Layer Security (EAP - TLS) which does the authentication process and also provides the transport layer security. In fourth layer the data encryption part is done by the help of Triple-DES. In the fifth layer the key management process is undergone using RSA key management.
The aim of this project “A new File Transfer Protocol (FTP) using Hybrid Encryption and EAP-TLS” is instead of multiple trusted authorities I focus on single trusted authority using public key cryptography RSA in EAP and also I include Triple-DES algorithm for Microsoft Point to Point Encryption (MPPE). I propose a new type of hybrid encryption technique using Triple-DES for encryption and decryption and RSA used for key management. This project implements the EAP-TLS protocol for the authentication and for providing the transport layer security. The project also aims in providing a very secure, low overhead file transfer protocol for a small network.
