I need a Linux bash script which will log hop problems when a target IP cannot be reached.
Here is a scenario we might experience when we are testing newly installed [login to view URL] is assuming a multi hop failure as an example.
-Hop 6 goes down but then comes back online
-Hop 5 goes down but then comes back online
-Hop 7 goes down but then comes back online
Once the target can be reached again, the outage is over so the script ends by spitting out it's log. The log must contain only the most relevant data, stripping everything but the following;
timestamp - outage start
DATE/TIME - HOP# - IP/Name
timestamp - 6 [login to view URL] (reached hop 5 so we know hop 6 was unreachable)
timestamp - 5 [login to view URL] (reached hop 4 so we know hop 6 was unreachable)
timestamp - 7 [login to view URL] (reached hop 6 so we know hop 6 was unreachable)
timestamp - end of outage
NOTE: This must also work on openwrt routers which have limited capabilities so communicating about the methods used will be important.
Hi,
I have openwrt router available and I have many years of experience with Linux. Do you want to use mtr for this task or some other C code?
Do you want to manually launch this script once you suspect the outage?
