I went through your description carefully. Hi, this is Ambar Shome, I work independently but also run Shome & Associates for larger projects. I can set this up cleanly and keep it easy to manage. No problem. Main goal is simple daily use for your team, with safe access and backups. I’ll create the Azure storage account, Azure Files share, then connect it with Azure AD / AD DS so staff log in with normal company accounts. After that I’ll map it as a network drive for Windows and macOS. Access will be done by user groups, not one-by-one users. Much easier later. I’ll set folder permissions, read/write rules, inherited permissions cleanup, and admin-only folders where needed. i’ve done very similar recently, setting up Azure Files with AD auth and mapped drives for mixed Windows/mac teams. Are you using Azure AD DS or on-prem AD with hybrid sync? Do you need SMB over VPN/private endpoint or public endpoint with restrictions? I suggest using private endpoints because it improves security and reduces exposure. I also suggest enabling Azure Backup + soft delete because it protects against accidental deletes and ransomware. I will create the storage account, configure Azure Files with AD auth, and set NTFS permissions.
