This project involves using Google to find data related to provided search terms from Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets and placing that data in a database. The data gathered is the occurrence of the term, some context around the search term, meaning a definable amount of text before and after the search term, the date and time of the post, the username of the poster and any other information that seems relevant to putting the search term in context and supports multiple searches for the same terms at different times. The deliverable is ideally a perl script that does this task. The input to the script is the search term or terms, the social media engines to be used (starting with FB and Twitter, but expandable later on) the amount of context data desired, and the date range desired. The output is the dataset described above. To do this job, you will need to know PERL and how to interact with Google, how to provide data in a clean and usable way, and how to work with HTML data, at a minimum.
