A. We publish an automotive advertising magazine; advertising for auto dealership.
B. Page types in the magazine consist of three basic types
1. Full display (this is where the dealers name and other graphics are displayed on the page, but also we normally place 12-15 max photos of different cars on the page with short description of the vehicle These descriptions are standard descriptions but each vehicle may have more features that others (example Auto, A/c, F/power, AM/FM, Cruise, Tilt, etc)
2. Double Truck Display (two full pages) for one dealer but when you open the magazine it spreads across like it was one big page. All of the same info is on this page as the (1) example of page.
3. Photo Ad this is a single photo of one vehicle with standard descriptions but there would be 24 single photo to the page.
C. We create the magazine page layout in adobe indesign ( believe) we create the graphics in Photoshop for the page
D. Our sale people take the photo’s of each dealers vehicles and note the features on the vehicles, the photos and descriptions of vehicle, type, year model and feature are all give to our graphic designer.
Process from what I know (since I am not a graphic designer)
A. She resizes the photos for each dealership moves then to the indesign page layout that is for that type of dealership
B. Then she types in the standard description (features) for that vehicle until all the photos are on the page
C. Either the graphics have been completed on the page are she creates the graphics and then saves the page as a PDF to be sent to the printer.
We do about 100 of the pages each week before being printed for the new magazine issue.
A. What I am looking for is a program or script that can be written which will interface with either adobe photoshop or adobe indesign that will automate this process of resizing the photos to match the space setup on the magazine template that we are using (we will have several different sizes since each page layout have different size space for vehicle on that page or even two different size spaces.
B. Then that script or program (or) a different script that will move the selected photo to the different spaces on the page.
C. Plus move the selected standard features text description to the same space or a space below the photo of the correct photo ( I would think that when you select photo you would select the standard text to be moved also)
Then she would add and special description manually and or finish graphics on the page and save the page as a PDF
I have included a sample of the 24 photo loyout but part of it is cutoff but you can see what it looks like. And I have included a one page Full display ad for you to see.
