Please note this is just a concept project, so i am after ideas and comments from freelancers with estimate bids on the project. This does not mean the project will go ahead, but more of a feasibility study into the suitability of the project based on your bids and feedback. I encourage you to have a read, make a bid and put your ‘hat in the ring’ so to speak. I am keen to build relationships with those who have the ability to work in more than one area eg. Iphone, Symbian, Web Development and more as opposed to just web design.
I am after a freelancer to basically create a similar solution to a lot of different Iphone apps and roll the concepts of those apps into the one concise, easy to use, but feature packed Iphone app. In addition to the cloning of the Iphone apps, there would also need to be both converting the functionality of some websites into the Iphone app, and creating the background web interface that would allow users to access their information on a device that is not the iPhone, eg PC. In the future the idea would be to allow other smart phones to use the service.
In addition to this, the app would be required to communicate ‘ad-hoc’ with a WiFi receiver, which would collect sensor readings relating to personal fitness, and act as a display and logger for these readings, similar to how SmHealthLink would function. (Seperate Project, See: [url removed, login to view]) and taking the readings and integrating them into the main site, as well as the Iphone App.
First the Iphone app would need to use the built in GPS, to duplicate the functionality of [url removed, login to view] app as well as the [url removed, login to view] apps, these basically use the gps to record exercise tracks such as location, altitude, pace, speed etc. It would need to mirror the functionality of these apps and web sites, but also integrate the heart rate sensors of the other project. The concept being that as someone is exercising, they can see much like their track, their heart rate, and other sensor stats at any given time, so for example at time 3:30 when i got to this position on the google map, my heart rate was 100bpm, and use that info to help their exercise plans.
The Iphone app, and the site should also duplicate the functionality of many popular gym and fitness apps, letting users record their daily workouts or learn new workouts, examples of apps are gymgoal, gym buddy and ifitness, In addition the site and Iphone app should also mirror the functionality of some nutritional tracking softwares such as MyNetDiary, TheCarrot, Nike Training Club and iPhone Diet.
The final part, was to duplicate into the app the features of [url removed, login to view] software and web site. So users can upload training information, download training plans that are free. Buy training plans from experts, plan means, all of those features and the ones on the site.
As you can see the concept is a diverse exercise application, nutritional planner, and health tracking software using many old concepts and some new ones. There is no specific timeframe, and no reason why open source solutions could not be used, what i mean is that you are welcome to use bits and peices of ‘copyable’ products that already exist today and can actually be copied, and apply some creative licence in developing a solution.
I would love to hear your comments, suggestions and thoughts on the project, and if you would like to be part of it.
Solution should not just be a clone, i do want something that is different and unique, but takes the concepts of many other apps and websites and rolls them into one 'health, nutrition and training; platform for the iphone and the web. Possibly in the future for other devices.
The hardware will basically be a receiver on WiFi that will broadcast its address, then the software will get that and connect and start receiving data, storing information and allowing communication (including voice) with the device.
There were two concepts with the whole system i liked, first to keep it modular, so that perhaps there is one base software that has basic features, and then more can be added on through it, same with the iphone app. It would be one basic holder app with basic features, and in app purchases would allow the user to download addons that provide new features.
The other concept was with the software (at least the commercial user version like trainingpeaks) to allow the software to tie sensors to a particular users profile. So for example the reciever will have 20 sensors attached to it, which give out their ID (which includes sensor type, and unique ID) and the data from that sensor. So if a sensor had a barcode with the ID, the gym could scan in that ID, and tie it to Joe Blogs account, whilst another one would be tied to Fred Blogs account, so data from each gets sent into the right account, after which they could be 'un-paired' with those accounts.
The idea is to allow gyms to have one version of the software, pair sensors with multiple users and track their fitness and readings, and then allow the user to send their data to the servers and download at another location, so at the gym their readings are saved, and also shared with their home basic accounts if their account likes that.
Hope that makes sense, share ideas and thoughts if you have any :)
