Website Programing Project

Summary

Both [url removed, login to view] and [url removed, login to view] have separate subscriptions to a XML feed from [url removed, login to view] which contain both voucher codes and special offers from merchants each are affiliated to.

The sites currently use iCodes V1 feed (iCodes original feed) but this is being turned off at the end of December so the prime objective is to move both sites to iCodes V2 feed. While I am not aware what the differences between the V1 and V2 feeds are I understand the output is very similar.

The above is to be achieved by updating/amending existing coding on these sites as appropriate to maintain all request types currently in use.

In addition the V2 feed contains product images (when available) and I would like to look at the possibility of using them. Also there is now an ability to search for particular items with a merchants output and I would like to look at using that.

Astute Shopping

Astute Shopping uses javascript, PHP, a MySQL database and a cron script to update the database automatically 3 times per day. Javascript was the original coding used on the site for voucher codes and offers with the PHP and the MySQL being developed at a later date. While the PHP coding does everything the javascript does and more it is good to have both but not essential so any decision as to whether the javascript is to be updated to V2 will be based on cost/development time.

This website originally used javascript for voucher codes and offers but so that the text was visible to the search engines a MySQL database was added and a variety of PHP scripts were developed to extract information from the database and display it on simple HTML pages. This database failed a couple of months ago when I tried to amend the password so all the PHP scripts were removed and replaced with the javascripts which take data direct from iCodes XML feed.

The following are for example the scripts that I use to add voucher codes and offers to a merchant page - in this case Comet:

<script language="javascript">

kMerchantName = "comet"; // Merchant Name

</script>

<script language="javascript" src="[url removed, login to view]"></script>

or

<?php

$kMerchantName = "comet"; // Merchant name

$result = 20; // Number of results showing

include("../[url removed, login to view]"); // This ../ can be used for folder level form root level

?>

In my attempt to change the password for the database I amended that password (from "astute?" to "" in the following 5 scripts - the first four are in the Database Files Folder:

[url removed, login to view]

[url removed, login to view]

[url removed, login to view]

[url removed, login to view]

and the following script which is not in a folder:

[url removed, login to view]

The original of the above pages are still on the server and can be identified because they have 27_09_11 in the description.

The database almost works because what you see in the voucher code/offer search on this page comes from it: [url removed, login to view]

What I did notice when the database stopped working is that the following appeared on the site pages where information should have been displayed:

Additional Functionality

This is my wish list and not a requirement for this to be done.

1) The iCodes V2 xml feed now includes product images and it would be great if they could be imported into the database and displayed on the merchant pages (eg: [url removed, login to view] ) along with the text when the above PHP script is added to an html page.

2) On Astute Shopping we display KGB Deals here: [url removed, login to view] There is no pagination on these pages and all the offers lumped together just look awful. What I would therefore like is the ability to display the offers for each city on a separate html page which would require some new programming. The following is an example of a request from the XML feed for London deals: [url removed, login to view]

Skills: AJAX, Javascript, MySQL, PHP
