I've got a particular problem with necessary attributes on my new store. General products are straight forward as far as attributes ie:
However, Rods are special in that they follow a different algorithm:
(Look at the linked page to follow, it is not a live store)
[url removed, login to view];cPath=2_67&products_id=283
As you can see CornerSplitStyle, LengthAC, LengthBD, LengthCE, & LengthDF attributes are not used. What's happening here is that rods are configured into bay windows or say 5 sides of an octagonal room which would yield a 4-Bend Rod which has 14 variables passed but only 9 of them are necessary to make the price calculation. The extra inputs are necessary to us however, in that they are the third side of triangle ABC for instance, which allows us to fabricate the rod at the proper miter angle.
-I would like to set up product normally through the products & attributes controller and then have the script pull the numbers from the standard location in the database. I don't want a custom definitions file that holds the prices.
-I would like to create a new product type to do this calculation and have the script "catch" that product type only.
-I would like to have very minimal core code modification.
-Needs to update weight properly for shipping calculation & billing.
-Needs to function with "duel_pricing_1.5", "column_layout_grid_v_1_3_8", "gallery_category_1-0"add-ons.
-Lengths will be inches in the formats [url removed, login to view] or 123-3/8. The fractional format being the preferred format. Therefore, validation, conversion, and rounding to the nearest 1/16" will be necessary.
-I want the Qty to remain "1" unless customer chooses a different quantity ie: I do not want (Length/12) to become the Qty (per foot pricing) even though rods are per foot. I want the calculation to happen within the attributes.
-The most important thing to me is that the customer experience is easy, smooth, and intuitive.
-It would be great, but not necessary, if it auto updated on the product_info _page but I don't want any prices or calcs in the HTML/JScript that would show the difference between retail/wholesale.
I've got a timeline of this week if possible.
