Goal: sell or give away subdomains with a minimum of management/customer interaction and overall brain damage. I would like customer to be able to choose his own username for his email, then his subdomain such as tomsmith and then choose the vanity main domain we have created such as vanitydomain1.com. So the user would make actually make three choices:
1. his username for his email address
2. his subdomain choice
3. main domain (from an onscreen list)
So if the client came up with the email name: salesguy and then came up with the name: tomsmith and then chose the main domain from a dropdown list [url removed, login to view] his email address would look something like this: salesguy+[url removed, login to view]
(note, the pus (+) sign has been substituted for the at sign as the at sign is not allowed in this message board
All areas open you your recommendation, instruction, expertise and experience.
If you know of or are experienced with an existing program that can do what we need done or you know of one that you can modify to fit our needs I am open to purchasing that software and paying you to make it do what we need or at the very least paying you a consultant fee.
For this project I assume that we would be using a Virtual Private Server so I have not made any domain/customer manager software choices. I am very comfortable with CPanel so it would probably be my first choice with your recommendation.
From the user/client side.
Client chooses from an array of available domains, for example:
[url removed, login to view]
[url removed, login to view]
[url removed, login to view] and so on... (there could be thousands to choose from depending on the success of this project so we might want to think about what will be necessary to set up in the beginning)..
then makes his subdomain choice and his username --The customers email address would have to be:
hisusernamechoice+[url removed, login to view]
NOTE: THIS SIGN (+) USED INSTEAD OF THE AT SIGN BECAUSE THE AT SIGN IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE ENTERED INTO THIS MESSAGE BOARD..
(the application would have to check to make sure that his username choice in the [url removed, login to view] he has chosen has not already been taken)
Creates an account for this user (collects name, username, alternate email address, etc.) and then verifies this user by sending a verification link to his existing email.
Once the account has been created the application would then have to pass the customer through to his new "site" where his email application and blog page would be located.
The application would need to email the new customer his account information.
The application would need a lost password recovery feature.
The application would have to be able to create and populate a blog/vlog page and an email application. (I am open to suggestions as to the blog/vlog software application to use - I have used several open sources apps that have worked well in the past but if you know of something better I would like to know.)
The customer should be able to log into his account settings and change his password and account information.
All client information saved to mysql db
The application should display all users in each vanity domain.
The application should be able to email all users with html message. (I do not need an editor - html email messages would be copied and pasted from another application)
The application should allow the administrator to add new vanity domains to the array.
The application would allow mailserver options (sendmail, smtp).
Bad words filter??
Application would email notify of a new account setup
I think this is a good start for the initial architecture.
