The host that we use screwed up and rolled a website back to 7/25/09 and I need a way to get back the forum posts from that time period.
I am getting stuff out of the google cache for the rest of the website, but a script for a web scraper would have to be written in order to gather up the large amount of forum posts. (this is a phpbb2 forum)
Here is a framework for doing this, but I am no expert and there may be better ways, which I am all ears for.
It seems like a script could be run that did a query on google to search for all the posts in a specific forum (something like "site:[url removed, login to view] www.internettexasholdem.com/poker-forum/omaha").
Once all the forum posts were found in the google cache (or yahoo, or msn, etc) and saved, then the second step would be to:
Parse the results and the text and enter it into the forum database (or at least another database that we could then go and parse and insert things).
If this has to be a manual data entry, you will not be responsible for that, only for getting the data, and a way to get it back in the forum.
We should be able to get the user name, and all that, plus the URL will give the actual topic ID.
I'll answer any questions I get as quickly as possible and thanks for reading.
