need a search tool for my website... I want to use the search tool to make it easy to compare the prices and products of participating merchants in my city... ex I would want to be able to search a price range, city or region, specific product name and have the search turn up the top results... the results data will need to be updated frequently so i would need a platform i could update myself.... Can you help???
Hi,
I have been a web designer and developer for over 15 years and can do what you need with relative ease - if you check my feedback and read the comments - you will see what you are asking for is pretty much what I do most days.
I am assuming by when you say "for my website" that the site already exists and that you just want a search bar on the homepage.
Since you have specified php - I also assume your website is hosted on a linux box with access to a MySQL database that we can place this data into and call from to give the search results.
Search variables are as follows:
Min Price:
Max Price:
Product Name:
City:
Search results will be ouput in order of cheapest first.
I also assume that there will be a click through for the final choice whereby the following data needs to be makde available:
Company Name:
Address Line 1:
Address Line 2:
City / Regeon:
Zip Code
Telephone:
Fax:
Email:
Web Address:
Company Profile:
Product Code:
Product Name:
Product Description:
Price:
One company can of course have more than one product - so we will need a separate table to store company details to the product details.
Back office will therefore have the following controls:
Company Details Editor
Product Detals Editor
*It will be impossible to delete a company from the records unless all products associated with this company have been deleted first.

I think that is basically it... But please make sure your hosting company allows you to have a database - or you will have to move hosting provider.
Many thanks,
Darren
