Many lawyers use google scholar for legal research. Google scholar allows the user to rank results by date or by relevance. Google has a secret algorithm to rank results by relevance. The algorithm does not produce very useful results..
I would like to build a website and/or app that will do searches of google scholar but allow the user to perform a custom ranking of the results by point score. For example, Supreme Court cases could rank 1 while lower court cases could rank 0. Older cases could rank lower while more recent cases could rank higher. There would also be a way to include certain words and phrases that must be in the result, and also by frequency of use in the case. Another input could be the number of times later cases cited the earlier cases provided that certain phrases were within 50 words of the citation.
Can such a website or app be created? It seems to me that such an app would be required to do an initial search, then hold the results in memory while applying the further ranking criteria. Is this even possible?
If it is possible, please let me know how you propose such a website or app would work and what your bid is to build it.
