You must have a website, and resume or portfolio of completed projects to bid. We will only work with programmers who work through the hosting site’s escrow services for payment (this is not the only site it is posted on). We will want to TALK to you on sk ype, m sn or y ahoo about doing the site. ONLY POST YOUR BID FOR THE FIRST PORTION OF THE DEVELOPMENT HERE, the second part and maintenance will be considered separately.
The site combines regular input pages (template based), a forum and a wiki... first level is free, others cost. the fourth allows input as a wiki for members input... inputting can be paid for in the usual ways (payment gateway), or in kind (their content). We need the cost of doing this and timeframe, and cost for maintenance of the site. Initially the site will not have commercial content, however it is expected that some content will be included in the upper levels as the traffic builds. paid (subscription) features will be included, emailing the top 5 activity topics, along with stats on % increases of input relative to members. Members can choose what topics they want to keep track of.
first would go as far as to look somewhat like this (overview) [url removed, login to view];id=3 … the Subjects (debates at this link) would be natural and manmade events which cause death. The Forums are dreams people have had that relate to any of the subjects all are available, but only top 200 rated inputs show. Articles (our annotation of the input) are site pages or links to related subjects. Home page connects site pages and links to related subjects. Discussion (our wikis) for open input by members to discuss related concepts, up to 50 inputs show (inputs by members are rated by paying members so only the best interpretations are kept). Ratings increase the credibility of the members supplying good input or diminish the credibility of ones which drone on or provide less than helpful input.
Member Input adds starting material for each topical area. input requires limitations as to the content, (some defined as 'newest' or highest rated/popular) and add to the overall rating of the topic as increasing in urgency or immediacy. it probably will not include images. content will be searchable. moderators will keep tabs on the first two levels of input. a page indicating the relevant increase of input to the topical area is a must; the increase is shown as a graph, and a 'filter' showing the % increase of input words as indicating urgency or immediacy, updated on a daily basis. (this feature will need to be included relatively soon after the site is operational.) admin levels must be capable of changing and controlling all functions and page content without knowing how to program in php and html.
Another interconnecting development (separate bid) will require a program to connect the words used to a dictionary and thesaurus (on mouseover or in an adjacent column? + in 6 more related groups such as homonyms, synonyms, word breaks, anagrams and 2 more. I expect it would require a neural type DB (like google) and dictionaries in english as well as their language). this feature is to be added later as dev. of the program but relatively soon. It is not expected that mysql will be adequate for that db.
(poll) ratings for input in the first and second levels would potentially move them from existing positions to lesser or greater positions, based on first 1000 readers
each person inputting must be registered, and can choose to be identified publicly by an anonymous ID (we will discourage being anonymous), their registration ID includes
3. location (identifiable on google earth or gps)
4. first, (second and third) languages
5. formal education
6. ethnic and national origin
and that info can be replaced by them inputting their ID info from a [url removed, login to view] registration.
some of these points can be coded so privacy does not become an issue (if they have not registered on pac.way.)
the site will be called [url removed, login to view] (it will be replicated in due time to create at least 2 sister sites and sites with similar content and formats but in different languages). topical areas will be disastrous 'natural' risks to life and include terrorism, war , tsunamis, earthquakes, asteroids/comets, epidemics, famines, and droughts, (crashes, medical and lesser accidental or health risks will be added for the short term & split off as the relative demand for those pages reach levels which warrant separate sites.)
for the primary levels of use (at least) the content should be capable of being edited or monitored like [url removed, login to view]'s programs do (but with more explanation of positional and edit function on any page being edited), we have enquired whose pgm format is used on [url removed, login to view], but it might be a few days before we know.
Member input (in kind) will be say xxx words a month, or some number of (relevant) dreams or more (and credits can be built up). Input must include a spell/typo checker, not necessarily to correct it, just to alert to a possible mistake (using both English and variant forms of English), or to ask for confirmation of spelling to find out whether it is a local word or a word borrowed from another language and show alternatives. If confirmed the word is added to our dictionary, along with the definition they provide (definition editable on new words on a wiki basis). this may require an initial input of the Oxford dictionary (defines million+ words) and several smaller dictionaries, including specific industries and other nations and languages, with the increase of words and meaning contributing to a new, more expansive dictionary... or we can build our own based more on the words people use. (the use of words describing dreams is far smaller than a dictionary contains, but larger than what people say in everyday life.)
(Indicate the cost for the 2 stages and time you expect for each level of dev. We will not release payment until each level is fully operational.)
You need to indicate how we will handle maintenance in the progression of development and volume increase of activity. (put your prices to us in your currency only as US$ is not our currency and we expect the US economy will take a steep dive within this next year [even before they leave Iraq] so you wouldn't be happy to tie your bid to US$ if their currency drops.) by the time you (as a programmer) have this site completed it could be a full-time occupation and could be expected to require others to assist you in maintaining it. Please indicate if you want the ongoing work of maintaining it and related sites and your bid for maintaining it.
the primary parts of this site like registration, forum and wiki (not the DB and dictionaries) need to be installed and operational by January 21, 2006 (3 weeks). member payment can follow next (main site functions will be operational and input possible) and the Dictionary db etc as soon as possible after that. Hosting sites recommended to start is [url removed, login to view] (1 terrabit/mo.), & they include mediawiki at a click. It is expected that there will be a need to have more features than what is supplied, like paid user levels… hosting has not been arranged or confirmed yet.
