Client Background Information: MaxScholar is a start-up company based in Argentina which aims to satisfy the e-learning needs of this Latin American country. We specialize in bilingual education of students with learning disabilities such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Dyslexia, Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. We currently possess 30 books of 10 passages each, with 5 questions per passage and 200 words per passage. We have a group of students who are hungry for online education and are eagerly awaiting the construction of this website. We would like the website to be built using HTML5. We understand that perfection requires patience, and thus are prepared to work with our designer to ensure that this project gets done the right way.
Target Audience: Our target audience included young students (8 to 16 years old) throughout the Americas. We would like the website to be completed in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Description of Deliverables: MaxPortal, MaxPoints, MaxTutors, MaxChat, MaxBoard, MaxMusic, MaxDesign, MaxViewer, MaxFriends. The most complicated of all is the Portal, which is where the students will log-on to complete their Reading, Math and/or Science lessons. MaxBoard will be similar to Blackboard in the sense that it is the space where teachers can announce homework assignments and upload documents such as book reports. MaxPoints is a simple feature which will track how many points the students have earned, which can then be redeemed for prizes (MaxPrizes). MaxChat is the feature that enables the students to chat with their friends (MaxFriends). MaxViewer is the photo section of the website, where students can view pictures. This section will integrate the TiltViewer application. MaxMusic is where students can view/create music. MaxDesign is where students can view/create designs.
We would like for all users to be able to access basic material for free. Anyone who enters the site can access our portal and complete lessons. However, we would like to reserve the more extensive features for users from our institution. We would like for them to be given user names and passwords. Furthermore, they will be able to take a pre-test to determine their academic level and construct an individualized educational prescription (IEP) or student learning plan (SLP). Also, we would like for the database to track how long the student has been logged on, and their performance for all students from our institution.
Deadlines: Since the Portal is the most important feature of all, we would like for it to be constructed first.

Tools to Construct: We want the users to be able to use highlighters to highlight the main idea, topic and important details of a passage. That is to say, we want the users to be able to click on a tool box containing highlighters and use it to highlight the correct words. Later, when they come back to the passage, they will be able to study more easily because they will not need to read everything-- they will merely look at the words that were highlighted. The colours of highlighters are hello, green and blue. Blue is for the topic, green is for the main idea, and yellow is for the important details. The highlighters are the most important part of this project. Please send me a message indicating you understand this feature. If not, please do not apply. We want to assign a value to the correct highlighting of the words in the stories. For instance, 5 point for correctly highlighting the topic, 5 points for correctly highlighting the main idea, and 10 points for correctly highlighting the important details. Students can only highlight a certain amount of words, to assure that they do not merely highlight everything in hopes of scoring correctly in a dishonest way.
NEW INFORMATION: MULTIPLE USER INTERFACES AND TWO PORTALS
There will be two portals on the website. The first portal has already been developed by a third-party e-learning company and will be accessible to all users, including non-paying users. The second portal is the one which you will develop, and includes our highlighting tool.
MULTIPLE USER INTERFACES
Our target audience can be broken down into different groups: Paying Students, Tutors, Parents, Non-Paying Students, and School Administrators. Therefore, a different user interface is required for each group.
The interface for the Paying Student has access to all the information, including both Portals
The interface for the Tutors gives these users the capability to add other users as their students. They can gain points by tutoring students via-Chat and Skype that can later be redeemable for prizes.
The interface for Parents is used mostly for marketing purposes, as we will boast of the benefits of using our website for their child's education. Furthermore, Parents will be able to track their child's academic progress, as well as view homework assignments and test results via-Blackboard
The interface for Non-Paying Students have access to all of the features, except for the Second Portal (the one with the highlighter).
The interface for the School Administrator will allow them to track the academic progress of their students. It is similar to the interface for the Parents in the sense that it will serve primarily for marketing purposes, but this interface will give the School Administrator the ability to track the progress of ALL their students.
Furthermore, the Admin interface will have the ability to control the CMS (upload new materials, make changes, etc.) Furthermore, the Admin will be able to identify exactly which words in the passage should be highlighted in each colour. By correctly highlighting certain words, students will gain points. The Admin determines which is the main idea (blue), which is the topic (green), and which are the important details (yellow). Each correct highlighting response has a corresponding value, which is used to determine the score on the assessment.
Regarding the chat, we want the chat to include video calling, just as Facebook's chat allows.
