I am developing a website for a video rental store. There is a database already with all of the DVD titles they carry and we are looking to use TMDb's API to display specific information for every title the store has available. Essentially, I'm looking for a script that will be run regularly (no more than once a day) via a CRON job which will populate the database with information from the API, keeping the store up to date (since they regularly add more films every week). We obviously don't want to display titles for movies that are not offered, nor do we want to bloat the database with unnecessary information, so the results should match the movie database that the store has available.
This information will be displayed in a Wordpress-powered site, with each film as a custom post type and relevant custom fields ready to be automatically populated. The Wordpress side of things is taken care of, we're just looking for an experienced programmer to create the necessary script. Additionally, there needs to be some way to prevent automatic overwriting of posts. For example, if the client wants to change the featured image (poster/cover art) for Evil Dead 2 to something other than what TMDb automatically supplied, this change will not be overwritten the next time the script runs.
Also, while I mention TMDb, I'm not against using another API such as Rovi, so long as the relevant information is available (title, director, cast, poster/cover art, etc.) and I'm open to other solutions to make this as simple and smooth as possible.
