Final Project – Due 12/16
Research, plan, and execute a redesigned website for the Syracuse Zoo. The redesigned website should focus on improving the user experience, the design, and overall functionality of the website. As part of the project, you will need to account for the prototyping of three pages:
1) Homepage – execute an eye-catching, exciting and user friendly front page to the website that encourages users to dive deeper into the website. Make special note to make sure this page focuses on completing the “goals” you set forth in the “discovery” phase.
2) Animals Landing Page – create a new experience for users that wish to view the animals that are on exhibit at the Syracuse Zoo.
3) Contact Us Page – create a page where users can learn how to visit and contact the Syracuse Zoo.
These pages should all link to each other, just as if they were part of a full, working website. ie: the Animals page should be able to be accessed by clicking on some link that is part of the overall design that would take you to the animals page. Please also include the three separate links into your written statement.
Your site must be complete and accurate, in content, design and functionality.
Must use HTML
Must use CSS
Must use jquery
Must use images
Must use 1 non-standard font. (@font-face)
Your site should be put onto the class server, and your URL must be:
[url removed, login to view]
Overall Impression: 5pts
Animals Page: 20pts
Contact Us: 20pts
Up to 10pts. – I will award up to 10 additional points for those of you who are willing to take on something we did not explicitly learn in class, but willing to figure out on your own. Ambition points are typically very conservatively awarded, with the only the most successfully ambitious students receiving the full 10 points. If total final project grade exceeds 100, the additional points will be added to your midterm exam grade with the lowest score.
The final project will also have three incremental assignments (will be done largely in-class)
1) Discovery (Due: 11/17)
2) Wireframe (Due:11/29)
3) Moodboard (Due:12/1)
Each of these incremental assignments will count as one “proficiency assignment” – valued up to 10 points. These assignments will count toward your ongoing proficiency assignments grade, and although they are directly related to the success of the final project, they do not carry any weight of the final project grade. Details of these assignments will be presented separately of this description.
Your project will be due the last day of final examinations: Friday, December 16th at 11:59PM – at that time I will promptly shut off FTP access and begin grade your projects that are on the server. No extensions can/will be given for this project.
Each project should also include a written statement explaining the purpose, creative direction and reasoning behind your redesign project. This is your chance to “sell” your project to me – I will read this document prior to viewing any of your finished files. This document should also state your case for any ambition points if applicable. Include your statement into an htm file, which should be located at:

Projects without the written statement in the correct format will automatically lose 10 points from the final grade.
