The issue is I need some advice as I have been working with a freelancer who has said something isn't possible, but I want to check if this is correct

Where I want to make the URL more SEO friendly and secure, so I would like to hide/remove the ?id=2 and put a variable there instead, or have both - whatever is possible and recommended.
