I want my website to deal with one brand of item - not many. So let's say I want to have a Hot Wheels swapping website. (not really Hot Wheels, but I'll use that for now).
Members would sign up for a small fee, then be able to list all the Hot Wheels items they have that they would like to swap. They will select what they have based on a list we provide them. And we would get those listing from a website like Amazon.
So basically, every item on Amazon that has "Hot Wheels" in the name would be listed on my website. That would have to be an automated process. I can't do that by hand.
Then the member would be able to go through our list and select the items they have that they would like to swap. They can also do a search for the item - or narrow it down by catagory (trucks, cars, Fords, etc...). I will supply all the catagories - there wouldn't be many.
So they create their list of items they have. As taken from Amazon, every item has a dollar value assigned to it, rounded off to the nearest dollar. So if the member has a Ford Mustang Hot Wheel and Amazon lists it as $[url removed, login to view], that would have a $[url removed, login to view] value on the website.
And the member would be able to see what the value of all their items amount to. Their personal admin would allow them to change all their info - username - password - mailing address - email - items and so on.
When they list an item, there would also be further details they must add. Is the item complete? Is the item clean? Are the instructions with the item? Does the item have the box? And they would check Yes or No with each item they post. And they would also have a text box to add other details they may want to add.
When looking for a swap, users can search through the gallery - by search terms - by member - all means.
Let's say one member has an item worth $5. He finds another member with an item he wants. He offers a swap. He can offer an Even Swap - Swap Plus Cash From Me - Swap Plus Cash From You. So he can say I will give you my one item, plus $2. Or whatever he wants. And he can offer 1 of his items or several or whatever.
A swap request is then sent to the other member. Email addresses are NOT exchanged at any point until a swap agreement is reached. The second memeber can agree to the swap, decline the swap, or offer a Swap CounterOffer, where they can adjust the swap and change the offer. Then it goes back and forth till one of them agrees.
Once they agree, email addresses are sent to the members so they can get in touch and complete the swap. The items are removed from their lists at that point the agreement is made.
Like Ebay, members then have the opportunity to rate the exchange. They give it a Great - Good - Okay - Bad rating. And they have a place for text comments as well.
I don't have a lot of specific ideas as far as the website design, but I like something simple to navigate. I like the look of this website - [url removed, login to view] It gives simple instructions and it's clean. I also like the idea of having the most recent items posted on the first page. Maybe the last 20 would be good.
Let's start there. Tell me how you would build this website - what ideas you have - then I'll tell you more about the item I'll be swapping. For bonus points, put the word "BLARDS" in your response. That will let me know you read all this.
One good thing is that I will be dealing with one item - like Hot Wheels. That will simplify explanations to users and catagory searches and things like that.
Looking forward to hearing from you. And please don't just give me a bunch of links to other projects you've done. Sure - I'll look at them. But I'm really concerned about your thoughts on THIS project. Money goes into escrow and is released upon completion.
PS - I put $250 to $750 for the budget, but I understand it may be more. I was just guessing based on other sites I've had built.
