Project name : provide Output GUI for XBMC
Project Output : Either a new xbmc installation file (.exe) that has been modified, or a python script that produces same result
Description :
What is XBMC?
XBMC is a open source program designed for media organizer, i.e : movies, music
The program can be downloaded from [login to view URL]
It's a very powerful and highly customizable program,
unfortunately, it lacks a friendly GUI option to output a specific media.
i.e : save button or save as option.
I'm aware that File manager exists in XBMC, but it's too complicated for normal users
and i want to use this for public usage so i'd like to simplify it.
If you're not familiar with XBMC and never tried it before this is what you have to do to :
(Otherwise if you're familiar skip to step 8)
1. You should use 3-4 Box office movies for sample in this project,
(It doesn't have to be Box office movies, as long as it's registered in [login to view URL] or it's famous enough it's fine.)
2. Place them in a separate folder in windows explorer with the movie name on it.
i.e : D:\Movie\Titanic\[login to view URL]
D:\Movie\Avatar\[login to view URL]
3. Download XBMC from [login to view URL]
install and run it.
4. Go to Settings > Appearance > Skin and install Transparency Skin
6. Go to main menu > Videos > Add videos, and enter any folder in your PC that contains movies.
for this example, it's D:\Movie.
7. Pick Movies on top right and for scrappers use [login to view URL],
it will scan your movies and look for its metadata in [login to view URL]
8. Back to main menu, choose videos, then move your mouse to left and pick FANART View, and you'll have same view as my pic below :
On skin level, this window on my pic is [login to view URL]
9. Now i want it to be modified by adding several functions to support output GUI:
- Checkmark(s) that can be single or many, to let user choose which movies he want to download
- Save button which calls the savedialogwindow (common in windows program) so that user can choose where he wants to download the movie.
- When that checkmark is ticked, it should select ALL files contained in movie's folder (including its subfolders), it must be all files
because sometimes there's also files like subtitles. That way it works just like windows explorer.
- Unmark button control to erase all checkmarks.
An example of savedialogwindow:
This function is not available in the skin customization because on that level XBMC does not allow calling IO method.
So this modification requires either :
a. Recompiling the XBMC using its source code
The source code and the recompiling method can be found in
[login to view URL]:Compile_XBMC_for_Windows
b. Creating python script
I'm not 100% sure if it's possible, since i don't know the extend of customization allowed via python
But technically this should be easier since we don't have to recompile it.
Both methods are welcomed as long as the produce the same result,
but python script is prefered if it's possible.
