Our field of work is applied material science, whereby we work with design engineers who try and develop lighter steel solutions, which are more efficient and hopefully consume less steel, which has an associated CO2 impact due to the inherent nature of steel production. Its very much driven by our own need to speed up review of 3D models and advise on lighter steel concepts.
Motive; to make a program that can read a STEP file, extract cross-sections of the parts (cross-section taken half way along the longest length), print an SVG canvas to a reportlab PDF report, two parts per page. So far, we have a working draft to this point. However, I would ideally like to extract the cross-section directly using OCC API (this is where we need support). Would also like to expand this program to recognise features in an image based on opencv for python.
The purpose of this program is to eventually, extract the cross-section, plot the SVG canvas into PDF, print some calcs on the cross-section such as stiffness etc., then using this profile to look at slender areas and problematic areas such as buckling or ways to increase stiffness combined with a weight reduction.
Already have a comprehensive working draft as a good start point but we need an expert in Python, with knowledge of reportlab, opencv and PythonOCC to make this a reality. The ulimate goal is to convert this into an executable, which can read a STEP file and auto-generate a PDF report.
