I am working on some personal project involving GPX data transformation, the idea is to take a basic GPX set that contains TimeStamp, Latitude, Longitude, Speed and elevation and loaded into a dataframe/dataset in Python, once loaded create three derived variables; as follow;
Height = Elevation - 1140
Vertical Speed (in meters per second) = (current elevation - previous elevation)
Phase = Categorical variable (Climb/Descent/NA)
Climb if the net Vertical Speed is positive (in trend, not a temporary fluctuation) and Descent if the net Vertical Speed is negative (in trend, not a temporary fluctuation).
