Shopping Cart: X-cart
Web Server: Apache
Here's the situation:
I'm having a problem with my X-cart Shopping cart. I have a lot of products on my website [url removed, login to view] .... around 5000. When I add new products I always upload a thumbnail image (for example with the name [url removed, login to view]) and a full size image (that has the same name). For some reason x-cart makes 1 or two copies of these files ([url removed, login to view] and [url removed, login to view]) and generally the database entry that I intended to point toward the files that I uploaded ends up pointing toward one of the copies. Including the copies that means that there are at least 10,000 files in both of my image folders, probably thousands more than that. I may be mistaken but my intuition tells me that this has got to have a detrimental effect upon my website's performance. I know that it makes administering the site more difficult .... simply getting a listing of the files in those folders when I ftp in takes entirely too long, but I would imagine that this many files must make the website respond more slowly as well.
Here's what I want to have done:
I would like to have a SQL script written that would change the entries in the database ... every reference to an image that ends with [url removed, login to view] and/or [url removed, login to view] be changed to have the -01 or -02 suffix removed. The intention is to have the database reference the original files that I uploaded instead of the copies, allowing me to delete the copies and hopefully improving system performance. In any event this should make it easier for me to add or update files by ftp.
Other thoughts - related to this project but not included as part of it so please disregard what's below when bidding:
I need to find a contractor who knows X-cart really well, preferably someone who can answer my questions without both of us having to scale a language barrier every time. I want very much to know this product better myself. If you have people skills, an extensive knowledge of x-cart and enjoy sharing what you know with others please contact me. There is no need to respond to this if your writing in any way resembles BIOS documentation or LInux help files. Trust me I don't need anybody to tell me that setting the option to enable will enable that feature .... nor do I need instructions that would only make sense to somebody who already knows what to do and therefore has no need for instructions. I need someone who can communicate clearly, someone who can empathize with those who don't yet know it all. I am not going to need help with the ABCs. I've been a windows technician and NT network admin for more than 15 years, but I am very much aware of the level of my ignorance regarding matters related to my website. I need a mentor to assist me in changing that and I am happy to pay for your time if you are that person.
Thank you for reading all of this. :-)
I have dealt file renaming issues a lot through SQL script as we develop packages to do various database maintenance issues. Looking forward to work with you. Regards,
