Fire, Smoke, and Pollution Detectors rely mainly on battery or hard-wired AC power to operate and have been developed over the years into necessary technologies in a modern World. Their use in buildings is now almost as common as protection alarm systems.
Hard-wired systems are easier to integrate with wireless technology through a central control panel commonly installed in “new build” properties during the construction process. These systems can also be monitored offsite by third party companies as a means of a fully supported managed and maintained detector system. Hotels, Aged People’s Homes and Commercial Retail businesses commonly use and rely on such systems.
While hard wired systems are best practice in new builds for various reasons of reliability, longevity and cost effectiveness and are highly customisable for data capture, battery systems have a more flexible approach for retrofitting to older buildings. The market is awash with such products and the technology is readily available at competitive prices, however, such products only have standard data collection options and are not customisable in their “off the shelf” profile.
We are looking to adapt standard off-the-shelf low-cost detectors to have wireless capability to transfer data either over an internet connection or SIM card telecommunications. We require that the software allows us to customise and collect data from clients whose systems we monitor. We are looking for a solution that allows for the communications to be in the form of a plug-in module used where necessary as not all units we fit will require one.
The project is suitable for someone who has a communications electronics background and the ability to write the software for data capture, or can be developed as two separate projects. Any interested developers must demonstrate that they have a good understanding within the field of integrating telecommunications into electronics. Examples of Data we would like to capture and transmit are temperature, humidity, conditions of smoke or pollution, mould, air quality etc. Most detectors will already have these sensors built into them, some even have communications by way of a phone app to monitor them remotely. This technology is not new and is easy to replicate, however, we require a more custom-built platform for our own needs.
Our project is time sensitive and consideration will be given more favourably to engineers and designers who will offer an attractive time frame of completion. By completion we mean a total end to end solution based on two stages.
The stages of the projects are determined as;
1. Design and integrate a plug-in communications module in a standard detector (electronics engineer)
2. Design and build the data collection platform that monitors the detectors and design a cut down version that allows the clients to access basic data through a mobile app (software engineer)
We would also give favourable consideration to an electronics engineer who can complete the communications part of the project inside our facility in Australia for ease of development. A full expense package and visa will be made available. The software development can be built remotely by a separate off shore team if necessary.
