I have a failed project attempted on another platform for a Windows Form Visual Basic application that interfaces with SQL Server Express 2008.
The form design has been created and some very basic programming has been done but the project is unfinished. The project is originally created in VS Community 2017.
The application must be able to build a user specified SQL connection string, connect to a database and read a single column of data from a single table. Matching data will be provided by the user in the form of an input CSV file. Any data that appears in the input CSV file but not the database will be exported to an output csv file for the user to review.
The form has been design as such:
btnBuild (Build Connection) - This button takes information from the four text boxes and builds the connections string to connect to the SQL server
btncn (Test Connection) - This button tests the connection string by connecting to the database, closing the database and reporting success or fail
btnIN (Specify Input CSV) - This button opens an OpenFileDialog for the user to specify the input CSV file and enters the file location in [url removed, login to view]
btnOUT (Specify Output CSV) - This button opens an OpenFileDialog for the user to specify where they want the new output CSV file to be created and enters the file location in [url removed, login to view]
btnGO (Run) - This button: (a) connects to the database using the connection string (b) opens the input CSV file and takes the first column data which is unique rows (c) checks the first column of data (unique item codes) against the unique items in the specified table (d) returns any item codes that are present in Input CSV but not present in SQL Database table into Output CSV File
Input CSV File Example:
Output CSV File Example:
The item codes reside in the specified database in the physical table, called item_code (SELECT item_code FROM physical...)
There is no lab for this project, it must be tested in production environment and it may take some time for testing however competent programmer should have no need to test MS SQL connection strings.
Successful applicant will be provided with code or with entire project upon request. Sample code is attached to this task.
