Export 3DS Max+V-Ray to binary FBX (with materials) for Blender

have purchased (from Evermotion) two rather old 3DS Max models with V-Ray shaders and i need to get them into Blender, preferably via FBX. blender will not accept ASCII FBX, so it must be binary FBX.

however, in the end, what really matters is getting the models working with shaders in Blender. these will be background scenes for a two-minute live action film.

or, if you have any difficulty, i can send you the test Max file directly. it is similar to the final files (two in total) that we shall need for our project. unfortunately i cannot attach the sample file here because

the job is effectively in two parts:

1) convert the test file to Blender; if it works, then

2) convert two buildings with exterior scenes (which is what we actually going to use)
